Bethany Bazaar

Bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to Gloucester Point

Bethany Bazaar,  held every two years, is one of the church’s most popular and best-supported events.  This fundraiser benefiting missions features hand-made gifts and  crafts showcasing the talents of our congregation. Open to the public the Bazaar kicks off with a Friday night Preview Dinner and culminates with the Bazaar on Saturday, generally held the first weekend in November.  

The next Bethany Bazaar will be held in November, 2022.

Bethany UMC Donates $22,000 in One Great Hour of Sharing — January, 2019

Bethany United Methodist Church in Gloucester Point disbursed $22,000 to twenty-three United Methodist agencies and local groups who work to improve the lives of others and provide aid to those in need.  The money disbursed came from proceeds raised from Bethany’s 2018 biennial Bazaar, all of which were designated for missions.

Those in attendance were Vice President Jack Whitmore–Abingdon Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Tina Thomas–Alzheimer’s Association, Jean Duggan–Bay Aging, Diane Ornsby–Back Pack Program for Abingdon Elementary School,  John Hasty–Boys & Girls Club of Gloucester, Jim and Monique Raposa–Bread for Life, Ron Rumsey–Camp Rainbow Connection, Tom Phillips–Gloucester Housing Partnership, Arlene Armentor–Gloucester-Mathews Care Clinic, Kristie Askew–G.U.E.S.T., Mark Tartaglia–Helping Hands Mission Camp, Jennifer Boyden–Heart Havens, Joni Neal–Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, Cynthia Geisert and Terri Byrne–Literacy Volunteers of Gloucester, Diane Garrison–Mattaponi Healing Eagle Clinic, Pastor Mike Derflinger– Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, Lt. Fadler–Salvation Army, Marsha Germek–Samaritan Group, A.B. Fulcher and Joel Coates–Union Baptist Church Food Pantry. Recipients unable to attend were Henderson Settlement, Henry Fork Community Center, Red Bird Mission, and Wesley Community Center.  The Bazaar Committee will also be donating $1,500 to Rise Against Hunger.

Members of the 2018 Bazaar committee are Judy Burner, Donna Andersen, Sue Morecock, Nina Whitmore, Lynda Blubaugh, Joni Neal, and Nancy Wilburn.
