What is HUGS? HUGS (Hands Unto God’s Service) is a unique ministry of prayer, comfort, and caring manifested through prayer shawls, lap robes, and quilts hand-crafted by members of Bethany UMC. Just as hugs convey a sense of love, concern, support, and security within embracing arms, the HUGS ministry exists to provide Christian love and comfort to those in physical, spiritual, or emotional need.
The shawls, quilts, and lap robes are prayed over as they are made. Once a willing recipient is identified, his or her item is placed on the communion railing to be blessed by the Pastor and prayed over by members of the congregation. When recipients wear or cover up with the items made for them, it is hoped that they feel embraced by our congregation’s love and prayers for their well-being.
You can be a part of this unique and vital ministry by volunteering to knit or crochet the items given or making a financial contribution to help cover the costs of materials used in the production of them. To find out more, please contact Janet Chapin at 804-642-6822.
